Bridal Suspension [br] [br] “Bridal Suspension”; watercolor on paper, self-made frame, ruched satin, bound, and tied with vintage bra straps with applied cup rosettes and garters. Displayed with hidden perfumed sachets attached in the corners. 52″h x 42″w.

This painting was inspired by my love of women’s vintage clothing and in particular, their under garments. Over centuries and the constantly changing attitude toward feminine beauty design concepts of women’s undergarments physically constrained or relaxed how women’s figures would be displayed.
This vintage long line bra/corset, made by “Maidenform”, still in its original box when I found it, was first introduced in 1953 and was marketed as the same style that Queen Elizabeth wore for her wedding. It was one of their most successful products throughout the 1950′s.
